OH - and make sure your resolution on the FFVIII launcher is set to your native resolution - I had it cranked to max and encounted the game force-minimizing itself to taskbar when it loaded into the splash screens. It's probably best to start large and work your way back, and also worth noting that my UI feels off-centre (based on the PAUSE indicator) but that could be just the UI in-game itself.
StartPixel and EndPixel should ALWAYS equal to your resolution in Width x Height! So for example, if I want less border on the sides, I'll need to change StartPixelWidth to X value (getting this value right by the way is complete guesswork) and then deduct X from my EndPixelWidth (my resolution width - so 586 (StartPixel) minus 3686 (Resolution) = 3100 (EndPixelWidth)). The StartPixel values are the black border(s) around the image, so if they aren't perfect first time be prepared to change them, load up FFVIII, see how much more border needs to be removed, and rinse repeat. Let's note my native resolution is 3686x2072. However, where it became a real pain was editing BasicFX.cfg. At the conceptual stage developers have decided to introduce drastic changes to the classic formula of the JRPG and the system of fighting and character development.
